this commission’s theme was to explore Joy and Pain within the black experience. With this theme in mind Danielle Swatzie creates a dance film and poetic narration titled META.

a short dance film and poetic narration, that depicts a woman identifying with her trauma using her mind and body connection to find liberation through isolation. This work speaks to her own transitionary period of radicalizing from a socially repressive narrative of black existence that ultimately leads her to unveiling the power of self love.
